Our excursion to the reserved nature starts with the picturesque canyon Devil's Gate. A small but very beautiful canyon passes along the bed of the Khosta River. A mountain river crashed into the limestone rock, forming hollows and sagging stones. This place dazzles with its beauty. Pleasurable sound of the river complements the feeling of unity with nature.
There is amazing ancient Colchis forest with its flora of pre-glacial period, and under the upright walls with the height of 50 meters there are boxwood trees and large flowering glades. There is a small lake right in the canyon with a diameter of 12-13 m, and a depth of 4.5 m. There will be pleasure for you to swim in it in warm weather.
After enjoying the canyon, we continue our tour and move in the direction of the Yew-Boxwood grove. You will experience unusual living Museum, a reserve of relict plants that have remained almost unchanged since prehistoric times (about 30 million years ago).
The sights of the grove are considered to be yew trees (coniferous tree, giving instead of cones the cone-berries; the wood is also called red tree because of color of the wood) and evergreen trees of Colchis boxwood, the wood of which sinks in water. The largest trees are up to 30 meters and have an age of two thousand years. The trees listed in the Red Book and protected by the government.
Following the plan of the excursion, you will see the stunning views of the landscapes. In some areas the trail will be very close to the river, it means that in hot weather you can swim in its cool waters. And that's not all! Our private tour continues. And you will see the prehistoric stone labyrinth, which was formed two million years ago. It is a unique creation of nature that will astonish you by its beauty. The walls of the labyrinth are as though artificially created by the hand of a talented architect. You will be charmed by this beauty.
At the end of the excursion you can admire thousand-year yew. Its large size is impressive even for experienced nature lovers. The observation deck of the gorge will be the final destination in our tour. There will be magnificent view of the surrounding mountains and the gorge.
